I’d like to tell you a story of a unique mare, Ima Sweet Exception. She is a 1990 mare by Watch Dell Jack and is owned by my dear friends Joe and Sandy Ferguson of Rogers, Arkansas. Joe was a long term NFL quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and while playing got into the quarter horse business Carol Russo of Buffalo, NY. They owned a stallion together, Watch Dell Jack, by Watch Joe Jack. Carol only showed Dell a few times earning 3 points in halter. Carol passed away several years ago after battling cancer. Sweetie was the result of crossing Dell with Revenues Exception who was by AQHA Champion, Two Eyed Revenue, by Two Eyed Jack out of Performance mare, Two Eyed Snippy, who was also by Two Eyed Jack. This makes Sweetie triple bred Two Eyed Jack!
I’ve had “Sweetie” here at Rainbow Farms for about 14 years but she still does and always will belong to Joe and Sandy. Joe never wanted to sell her but always wanted her to have a good home and thats exactly what she has here.
If I’d known what I know now about “Sweetie” babies I’d have a bunch more. I used to sell her babies first as weanlings because they were always some of the best we had. But now that we’re riding three “Sweeties” I wish I had more. Pictures of 2005 mare, Joes Sweet Prophet, 2006 geling, Sweet Eyed Jack, and 2007 colt, Sweet Mister GQ, and her 2009 colt by Heza Bold Me Two, who is out of a Watch Joe Jack mare.
Another twist to this story is that a few years back Joe Ferguson was diagnosed with cancer. Joe was very sick for a year and there were several times that we didn’t think he would make it. But anyone who knows Joe Ferguson knows there is no quit in him plus his deep faith and loving family and friends. In 2005 I was filling out the AQHA registration papers for Sweetie’s pretty little bay filly when the phone rings and its Sandy Ferguson. Sandy ask what I’m doing and I tell her“trying to come up with a name for Sweeties filly”. She then says “we just got back Joe’s latest report and his cancer is in remission! Wow, I can’t believe it…..I say “ Sandy, I now know the filly’s name. “Joes Sweet Prophet”, because the name is divine intervention just like Joe’s healing…….
Pictured are some “Sweeties” in training. Thanks for looking…Tim
