Sunday, in the wee hours of the morning, we had our first foal of this season. Pep Ups Lady Lark had a bay stud colt by Te Eyed Rhett Buck, a performance son of Two Eyed Red Buck. “Lady is a really great mare and what makes her so unique is that her dam, Pep Up Jackie was a World Champion by all time leading sire of AQHA Champions, Two Eyed Jack.
To have a mare like this is a real asset to our program. “Lady” will be bred on foal heat to our stallion, Western By Choice. With his dam being a daughter of Sir Raliegh and her dam being by Two Eyed Jack, we a capturing two of the greats of the past with this breeding. You just don’t find those two immortal sires so close up in todays bred horses. Sir Raliegh and Two Eyed Jack were from an era when the quarter horse did it all, halter and performance. Add to that “Lady’s sire, Scotch N Lark, comes straight from the famous Hank Wiescamp and Carson’s sire is World Champion producer, Western Impress, we feel we’ve captured the perfect breeding for the type ranch and show performance horse we are trying to raise.
Pictured is Lady and her new stud colt and the young man who helps in the evenings, J.B.Brokenberry looking on. Also pictured is “Carson”( Western By Choice) on a sunny day admiring the mares across the fences.
We have three more mares foaling in the next two weeks and two in April so check back for updates. Wow, I love this time of year! Thanks, Tim
